Industry
My idea for unit 10 is the change in people's emotions. Emotions are a continuous cycle, a transition that doesn't end until death. There are many factors that make up emotions such as the environment and people surrounding us as well as everyday situations. I want to show how our body posture changes and our expressions transform to reflect a mood. Artists Januz Miralles, Linnea Strid and photographer Anne Leibovitz have guided and inspired me throughout this project to create my work. Both artists like to create expression and let the viewer make up their own mind about the mood and feelings it gives them. Photographer Anne Leibovitz captures many different facial and she says no image is the same. You can take the same photo twice and it will come out different.
There are many types of induestries. Things like music, advertising, graphic design, web design and many more.
I am focusing on the graphic and advertising side of the art industry. So far in my project I have carried out 2 photo shoots and edited both selected images relating to my theme of transitions. It is better to ave a wide range of research to help broaden your ideas.

Photography FINAL EVALUATION
The aim of this project was to put our work into the context of industry. We had to link our theme from the start of this unit, mine being ‘emotions’ to a career in the art industry. I picked graphic design. My idea was to make posters and flyers for a charity I created. Like I was freelance and they commissioned me. I feel like I achieved my goal and I am pleased with my final outcomes.
I researched into posters to help give me ideas, their appearance and locations to guide me on how the scale and layout when creating them. I also took my own photographs as that is primary research and I would have a better understanding of how I’d want my outcomes to look and broaden my ideas.
I carried out this project as if I was given a brief by an charity, so I created my own charity called Sanity. I created an email and telephone number for them also. It is a charity to help people if they cannot control their emotions and simply want someone to talk to. I specified on this type of charity because there are cases like this is real life. I carried out the project as if they wanted me to advertise the Sanity charity and spread the word.
I picked my favourite images from both photo shoots, and edited them. I then chose my final images to use. I had an issue to overcome that was the layout of the page itself. Where I was going to place all the text and how it would flow. Because some of my photos filled the page with not much background or plain area’s for the text I had to move into the actual image. I wasn't 100% happy with that but I had no other option due to the photography and editing being completed and the text decided upon.
I found that some parts of the hand drawn design I did on top of one of my posters ruined it, so I changed it. It made the photography look messy, childish and unprofessional.
I believe that my work has achieved the goal that I set. Looking back at my work now that it is completed don't like that it seems dark and gloomy. I love the way I edited and took the photos but it needed to be brighter and more eye catching I think. If I was to do it again I would take more risks with my images and use of colour. I would make my images have more movement.
Overall I liked taking photos and learning new software skills each week in class because those key skills will stay with me for a long time.
Print FINAL EVALUATION
In our printing class we were continuing to use photos taken in our photography class to alter with different methods and link with our theme of transitions and industry context. I thought this would be a good way to create an outcome because it would be so different to painting or creating/editing it on a software.
Our first session was plaster print. It was a fun session; so much so that I made multiple pieces with different patterns and designs in the plaster itself. I originally found it difficult to etch into my copper plate because the tool I was using wasn't correct or thin enough at the end for detailed sections. But over came the issue by asking for help and finding the correct tools and buffing my plate more. I would love to create more plaster prints in the future.

After that session had finished the following week we moved onto silk screen printing. We had already done this method the previous year and I had struggled with this type of print. It started off okay, but the unit changed drastically when it came to printing my work. I had done all of the preparation such as oiling up my work, making my paint mixture and choosing to manipulate my images by hand. This process took longer, and left me with less time to print. I didn’t think it would be a problem but then the pressure washer broke.
It had already been hard just to do my experimental prints. People fought over the room and getting a time slot was difficult so I worked through lunches when I was allowed in the room.
I came across interesting print artists along the way such as Ben Rider and Philip Huntington who is also known as DogBoy. i focused on their work as they had a great use of colour and a bold strong style that captured my eye. They helped me in deciding what colours i would use when it came to the practical work and what colours would clash and loose the strong sharp effect.
As silkscreen printing wasn’t allowed I moved onto a different style of print instead. I picked mono printing as it was a method I was 100% confident in and I new there would be no complications in the practical side of things. Because of the method I could only use 1 colour and it became a monochrome piece. I am happy with my monochrome piece because it is tidy and detailed and shows tone. It also shows the emotion of sadness and feeling lost that I was trying to capture. To create this look I made the edges of the female soft and didn't print onto every section of her leaving gaps and light marks as if she was fading into the page itself.
Overall I did not enjoy the silk screen printing process for this part of the unit due to the difficulties that I was faced with along with the room being shut off. We had learnt the silk screen method the year before so I would of preferred it just as an option and not to go through the actual process then end up doing another form of print anyway. However I did like the plaster print session and creating a Mono print.
Daisy Clare Drawing FINAL EVALUATION
In these sessions we were portfolio building. Each week was different and we used different materials such as oil pastels, quink ink, gel, marker, fine liner, biro and felt tip pens. We also used different liquids to change the colour of the surface when 2 fluids were mixed together. I used water colour and charcoal. My favourite materials were oil pastels because i could blend the pastel together well and create great outcomes, along with a simple black biro pen because i could draw detailed objects and use different amounts of pressure on the page to create tone and shading.
We had objects such as teddies, shells, dead fish and dead prawns, a cup filled with water along with text behind it on a page.
The prawns were fun to draw as their scales and body were filled with vast amounts of colour and patterns. I achieved that goal of drawing prawns with different sizes and in different ways within the 2 hour time of that lessons.
The fishes were funny as we had a list of different ways we could draw them such as a red fish and old fish or a psychedelic fish.
The teddies and different toys were harder to draw for me because we had to split the A1 page into 4 sections and draw the head and shoulders of the toy, then focus on shadow and texture rather than the actual toy. I found this hard because i prefer working on a smaller scale as i can include more detail. I only got 2 and a half teddies finished in that lesson.
The shells were fun as we had to explore the use and method of crosshatching. I drew shells from different sizes to practice my technique. My work was rather small so the page looked very empty.
Also we had a mini photography session where we cut out different signs and made them pop up out of the page and use different filters of colour when taking the photos of them. I blended different colours and created great shadows with the pop up signs.
The following week we were given another A1 sheet that had yellow spray paint on it. We had to draw firework boxes and images related to the fire work theme onto of those yellow spray painted sections. I achieved this goal in that session and used many materials such as pens ,markers, oil pastels and water colours. I learnt that spray paint can block some materials from staying on the page or marking it. I completed the fire works and was very happy with every outcome.
The last lesson we were given a glass filled with water with a frame around it and standing behind it held up was a sheet full of writing. I had to draw exactly what I saw in that frame onto the A1 sheet. This meant I had to fill the entire sheet. I used a graphite pencil for small detail and the letters and i used a pencil for the main cup itself and charcoal for the tonal areas and large shading space and i could blend it out with my finger. I enjoyed that lesson very much as I came out of my comfort zone when it came to drawing.
My top favourite lessons were the prawns, fireworks and glass of water lesson. I got to express myself and gain new skills in those lessons with the mixed media work and I would happily continue with those sessions but with different sized paper each week.
I achieved the outcomes in those lessons and an understanding of the shapes and movement of what I drew.
